These are fresh golf pics, dear readers. These were taken yesterday at Sugar Hill golf course in Westfield, NY. Good shots, beautiful day. The day was marred only by the fact that their restaurant, which is really tasty, is closed on Monday.

Random Golf Pics 2009- Volume 1

These pics were taken during various golf outings of 2009. I'm sure if I tried hard enough, I could remember actual dates. But, that smacks of effort. Anyway, dear readers, enjoy the pics. They're basically here for the sake of posting something.

Fantasy Golf Update

Wow! That's all I can say, dear reader. I find it fascinating just how uninterested I am in Fantasy Golf. Was not prepared for that.

I just don't care as much as I thought I would. Oh well. Live and learn.

I'll be sticking with football and hockey for my fantasy sports from now on.

Trying Something New

Today, I signed up to do fantasy golf on Yahoo! I've only been playing golf a couple years. I've been watching it on TV for less than a year. But, I decided to give it a try. My present fave pro golfer is Padraig Harrington of Ireland. Above you'll see a clip and a pic.

Golfing With Paul

So, Thursday (10-16-08) was my birthday. I spent part of it golfing with my friend and parishioner, Paul. We went to Rosebrook Golf Course near Silver Creek. It was really wet out there, but it was really a chance to hang out and swing the clubs. We didn't keep score (mercifully). Enjoy the pics!

Golfing with Tom and Travis

I took the day off yesterday and went golfing with 2 fellow LCMS pastors. We played a version of golf called "best ball". If that's an unfamiliar term, it's where everybody hits, and then you play from not where your ball lands, but from the best shot. Lots of fun! We all had a terrific time.

It was great to be out in the fall foliage. Nobody kept score. It was just a chance to hang out and hit the links. These pics were taken at Concord Crest Golf Course near Springville, NY. Enjoy the pics!

Pioneer Golf Benefit

Yesterday was a pretty amazing day for me. It did not start out well, as you can see in my previous post (see Bathroom Issues). But the day certainly got way better.

I always enjoy hitting the golf course, even though I'm not really a good player. But yesterday's outing was for a good cause. It was a golf benefit for Camp Pioneer in Angola, NY. It's a Lutheran camp up here that serves all people. I was a chaplain there over the summer. That was really rewarding. I've referenced it in a couple of earlier posts. I should do a whole post on the place. It's that much of a blessing to the Christian Church and to western NY.

I didn't golf particularly well, but I had a great time. How could I not? I was playing golf, it was a beautiful day, I was among friends, and I had The Boss with me. The Boss is my vicarage supervisor. We got to be pretty tight.

Anyway, I got a huge surprise on one of the holes. Each hole was sponsored by some entity, like a business or a church, or individuals. Anyway, imagine my surprise and joy when I discovered that one of the holes was sponsored by my parents. Each hole was marked as to who sponsored it. You can see it in one of the photos up top.

Like I said, an amazing day.

The Burning Stump

I nearly forgot to post this.

This happened on Monday. I was golfing with a parishioner at a place called South Shore Golf Course. One of my shots (I forget which hole), went awry, as they are wont to do. We were riding around along the fairway trying to find my ball. I saw it and said, "There it is." My partner said, "Over there? By the burning stump?" I hadn't noticed that the stump was on fire. And so, I was like, "Yeah. Oh, it IS on fire!" So, I moved the ball away from the burning stump (about 1 club length) and made my next shot. In the photo, that's exactly where the ball landed. I had to preserve that for posterity.

Apparently, there was a ground crew clearing some trees on the course near that hole. And the decided to burn one of the remaining stumps. I'll never forget it. Of all the things I expected to find on the golf course that day, a burning stump was not even on my radar screen.

For what that's worth.

Golfing with Eric

Today was a great day! I got to go golfing with my buddy Eric. Both of us are terrible golfers. But today, we both broke 100! That was my first time breaking 100. It's amazing how much lower your score gets when you don't shoot a 10 on the first or any tee. Anyway, here's some picture of us. there were taken on my camera phone at Grandview golf course in Angola, NY. The top 2 are him, and I'm the bottom pic.

From Bad to Worse...

Today was my day off. So I played golf with one of my Elders at my congregation. Here's why the entry is titled the way it is.

I started off with a 10 on the first hole. And it really didn't get much better, strokes-wise.

Here's the other issue: Our cart died. It had started sputtering on the back nine. But guess where it died? In the middle of the 18th hole. We pushed it for awhile, but then gave up and informed the club. It was really too late for them to do anything for us except give us another cart to put the bags back in the minivan. The picture in this entry is the cart that died.

Hopefully, I didn't bore you too much, dear reader. I know it's kinda boring hearing other peoples' golf stories. I get bored with it too.

A Brief Rant-Golf Etiquette

I played 18 holes of golf today. I did much better on the back 9. The front 9 was pretty much a disaster. But, I ran into the same problem that I've been having as of late, whether I play with my usual partner or alone.

Will somebody please tell me why people on the golf course (as of late, it's been primarily old guys) are so dead-set against having faster people play through? I just don't don't get it. I thought that was one of the primary roles of golf.

Apparently not.
